Almost every packing list online is a list of everything. This one isn't. These are the items that repeatedly change how a trip goes — a weekend in Omaha, three nights in Vegas, a car-camping run through a state park, or an eleven-hour interstate drive with kids in the back. Each section is short on purpose: if something isn't here, it's because we didn't miss it.

- Neck pillows on flights under three hours. A rolled hoodie does the same job.
- Universal power adapters for domestic US travel — you don't need one.
- A second pair of 'nice' shoes for a two-night trip. One does it.
